A quick primer.
For my B-day I found myself an 89 Thunderbird Super Coupe at the low, low price of $700.
Of course it had some issues. If it didn't it wouldnt have been $700..
She had a smoking habit and a bad one. Most of that was traced back to a fubared PCV system. The rest was a dipstick tube that was not even close to being in the block.
Solving that still left the white smoke from the tail pipes, an occasional HYDROLOCK (!) On startup and that she was only running on 4 cylinders.
Blown Head Gasket?
That's what all my friends said. But I'm what they may call a stubborn prick. So I rarely listen to their opinions on car troubles.
For a laugh I held a Propane torch to one of the tail pipes. Pif..Pif..Pif.. Neat little fireballs came and went. It was all fuel.
Time to pull plugs.
Aaannnd..
Ta-frickin-Dah!
Cylinders 1 and 4 were carbon fouled. A quick check of the Injectors with a 9v battery proved that they were stuck open.
Almost nothing on this car is easy. To get to the fuel rails Step 1 is to pull the Blower.
Pulling the Blower was easier than pulling the plugs! Jeez.. That was actually shocking..
Sadly, it's getting dark earlier and earlier so I didn't have time to pull the Injectors. If the rain stops tomorrow I'll have them out and off to the "rebuilders". I'm getting excited, this Bird may fly before Snow flies.
Here's a parting shot of the almost universal M90 in the Shed.
